‘All Wheel drive’ or ‘4 wheel drive’ sport utility vehicles have dominated the general market in recent years. The majority of people are aware of them; but lately ‘All Wheel drive’ sedans have seen an increase in demand. The concept of this type of car is still new to some people. This article seeks to demystify 4 wheel drive sedans.

The Ford Fusion is an All Wheel Drive sedan

The auto sector began toying with the idea of making ‘All Wheel Drive’ sedans many years back, but they could not see the real potential, because the ‘consumer market’ was reluctant to accept them. Due to disinterest shown on the part of consumer, the interest of manufacturing these cars quickly faded.

The Mercedes Benz C240 Popularized The Craze For All Wheel Drive Sedans

It’s believed that the ‘Mercedes Benz C240’ released in 2003 drew the attention of consumers to the ‘All Wheel drive’ sedan idea. It was the perfect blend of luxury and flexibility that made people love the car. The “All Wheel Drive” feature did not add to the overall expense of the auto, so consumers were extremely pleased.

This created awareness among the people and they started realizing the advantages of owning a vehicle that is ‘All Wheel Drive’. Consider the availability of the ‘Audi Quattro’ in either in ‘All Wheel Drive’ A6, A4, or A8 (the luxurious one). The A8 has been hugely successful in Europe. This is because ‘All Wheel Drive’ was first introduced to Europe with this model. Audi is an early pioneer with the ‘All Wheel Drive’ sedan. They have been selling them for quite some time, as has Subaru.

The ‘All Wheel Drive’ sedans are available as options on both the Impreza sedans and Subaru Legacy . Subaru is a senior player in the ‘All wheel Drive’ category, hence it can produce an impressive product at reasonable cost. The success of their ‘World Championship Rallies’ every year depends on ‘Subaru All Wheel Drive’ vehicles to a great extent.

The new vehicle (making use of ‘All wheel drive Sedans’) on the block is the ‘Mitsubishi Lancer evolution VII’. It gives out 250 hp (horsepower), comfortable interior, and good body style. The technology of ‘All Wheel Drive’ is likely to make its performance an actual hit! Volvo has been manufacturing an ‘All wheel drive station wagon’ for quite some time, but lately it has added the S60 sedan as well. The ‘All Wheel Drive S60 sedan’ can be defined as a luxurious sports sedan that is in direct competition with the BMW 3 and Audi A4 car series.

The ‘All Wheel driving’ system is also offered by Volkswagen in both the Passat and Phaeton sedan series. ‘The Phaeton’ is a direct competor of ‘the Mercedes S series’, ‘the BMW 7 series’, and ‘Audi A8 series’. The BMW series has another direct competitor. It is the ‘X Type sedan’ offered by Jaguar. If one wishes to go for something cheaper, the ‘Matrix hatchback’ by Toyota is the best option. The even cheaper option consists of ‘Suzuli Aerio’ (by Suzuki). None of the big auto manufacturers from North America have come forward with such sedans till date.

Hopefully this overview gives you an idea of the type of All Wheel Sedans available on the market.
